글씨대로 展 – 글씨, 그 너머의 길
붓잡은글씨꾼입니다.
매일 붓을 잡고 글씨를 쓰고, 인생을 쓰고 있습니다.
좋은 획을 긋고 좋은 글씨를 쓰기란 참 쉽지 않습니다.
여전히 붓을 잡으면 이정표 없는 길 한 가운데 덩그러니 놓여 있는 기분입니다.
늘 글씨가 먼저 묻고, 그 물음에 답하며 걸어 왔습니다.
이번 전시 <글씨대로>展는 이 사색에 대한 작은 응답입니다.
그동안의 캘리그라피가 감성과 미학의 표현에 머물러 있었다면 이제는 글씨의 구조와 흐름, 획과 획 사이에서 발생하는 힘과 호흡에 주목하고자 합니다.
한글 고유의 조형미와 캘리그라피의 예술성을 재조명하는 실험적 시도이기도 합니다. 글씨의 역학성을 면밀하게 고찰하고 다른 각도에서 ‘글씨의 길’을 모색하는 지점입니다.
여기서 제시하는 ’글씨역학(Calligraphy Mechanics)’은 캘리그라피(Calligraphy)를 골자로 타이포그라피(Typography) 감각을 융합한 개념이자 한글 예술의 확장입니다. 매일 긋는 획을 통해 글씨의 뼈대를 탐구하며, 획의 방향과 속도 그리고 여백이 만들어 내는 공간의 역학성을 입체적으로 바라봅니다.
이 길이 정답이라고 할 수는 없습니다. 새로운 형식을 제시하기 위함 또한 아닙니다.
글씨가 본래 지니고 있던 잠재된 가능성을 다시 바라보는 일입니다.

I am a calligrapher who holds a brush. (aka. geulssiggun)
Every day, I hold my brush to write letters and, in doing so, I write my life.
Drawing a good stroke and writing a good letter is never an easy task.
Even now, when I pick up the brush, I feel as though I am standing alone in the middle of a road without a signpost.
Letters have always questioned me first, and I have walked my path by answering those questions.
This exhibition, , is a small response to those contemplations.
While calligraphy has often remained in the realm of expressing emotion and aesthetics, I now wish to focus on the structure and flow of the letters, and the power and breath that emerge between each stroke.
This is also an experimental attempt to re-examine the inherent formative beauty of Hangeul and the artistry of calligraphy. It is a point where I meticulously contemplate the mechanics of writing and seek the ‘path of the letter’ from a different perspective.
The concept of ‘Calligraphy Mechanics’ presented here is an expansion of Hangeul art, integrating the essence of Calligraphy with the sensibilities of Typography. Through the strokes drawn every day, I explore the skeleton of the letters and three-dimensionally observe the spatial mechanics created by the direction and speed of the strokes, as well as the negative space. I cannot say this path is the only answer. Nor is it intended to present a brand-new format.
It is an endeavor to look back at the latent possibilities that writing originally possessed.
